CastleCops’ Paul Laudanski accepts job at Microsoft
by Matthew posted on June 13, 2008 8:34 am
Paul Laudanski is best known for running the website CastleCops.com – a site with over 120 volunteers sorting out web user issues with spam, phishing attacks, malware and rootkits all for free. He has run the site with his wife since 2005, but now it seems, it is time for him to move on.
Last week Paul announced via the CastleCop forums that he has accepted a job at Microsoft as a full-time Internet Safety Investigator. He will be working for the Live Consumer Services group focusing on phishing, spam and general service abuse.
I wasn't aware until your post.
Paul accepted a job at Microsoft then CC is down. What the hell is happening?

i personally don't see it as a "what the H---", but rather as a "congrats, Paul !!!"
now, if we can only get some "Paul wannabe's" to step up to the plate over at CC and get the site back up-and-running...
again, CONGRATS, Paul... All your hard work, knowledge, and expertise DESERVES a well-rewarding job/career...
I'm happy for Paul but it seems irresponsible to let Castle Cops just go to hell because he got a nice job offer. I've been pissed since I heard and have not been able to get to CC. It is excruiatingly slow and I need to get to the various Proxo forums. It takes forever and then you try to post and that takes forever too. Someone just posted at dslreports who begging for help because they can't get to the forums at CC. What with Sidki leaving and now CC is usually not accessible...well...then just now I tried to get to this site and evidently my bookmarks for this site must be old. I could have sworn I entered this site recently in my bookmarks but when I clicked on the bookmark I got taken to a site that says it is this site but it is for sale. So, I googled and google takes me to that for sale site too although I finally found this site again after clicking on a bunch of bad Google links, I finally got the right link. I have made sure I bookmarked it too.
irresponsible, YES... highly agree...
but NOT Paul's fault, whoever he handed the "baton" to has 'obviously' dropped the ball... or just plain has no clue how to fix...
i could never run a website, that's for sure, i'd have NO CLUE how to "combat" the d@mn 'DoS attacks' that has befallen CC...

Why would anyone think that there is more than one Proxo Forum?
Oh wait, I remember now....... not everyone has the ability to get it right the first time, and land here, where they shoud have been right from the get-go! For those people, there are the me-too's, the wannabe's, and the also-ran's. Just to tide them over until they finally get here!

Until recently Sidki was still working on config sets and I found it quite useful to be able to post in his forum. Before that I had JD5000's config and also found it very helpful to post in his forum at Castlecops. That is not to say this isn't a fine Proxo forum! I think Grypen is still writing his configs so anyone using them might want to be able to get to his forum. There are historical posts in all the Proxo forums at CC that can be useful sometimes. Again, that in no way means I don't like this forum. I think it is a wonderful forum and I'm grateful to Kye-U for it.
can anyone even get CC to load?
after about 20 seconds, i hit Proxo's "kill connections" and 'abandon all hope, ye who enter in' (Dante Alighieri, Divine Comedy... Inferno, to be more precise)...
I think a lot of folks would like to know what has happened to the almost $10,000 they contributed for the purpose of buying new servers for CC so it would be fast again. It doesn't make Paul look good when comments start appearing around the internet that he has pocketed the money and has sold the site to an idiot. He has not handled this situation well at all. It reflects on Microsoft also that they evidently gave him no time in which to prepare CC for his departure or to find a good buyer, etc.
Ping Plotter running to CC for awhile shows average ping at 265ms! It should be about 100ms or less since the location is the west coast and I am in Hawaii. Microsoft pings at about 90-100ms, GRC.com at about 79ms, most west coast sites have really good pings for us (its usually about 78ms to Orange Road Runner where our Regional Data Center is located) and about the highest pings on the west coast shouldn't be much above 100ms. CC, a year ago, was pinging at 87ms.
If you wait long enough, CC will load but usually without frames and sometimes no images, etc. That is of course when you can actually reach it. I keep Ping Plotter Pro pinging it and check Ping Plotter before going there. There are long periods every 24 hours when it is completely unreachable. I was able to check the main forums page yesterday and saw a number of forums with new posts so some are getting there. I wanted to get to the admin forums to see if it is true that they are totally ignoring any posts about how slow it is. I heard they are deleting any such posts. But I couldn't get beyond that main forum page with the list of forums.
