Why is this site so slow to load? I am on broadband, and loading is like pouring molasses in a sub-zero environment. The images seem to delay things a lot. What is the problem?

The loading times for the site/forums are pretty quick for me...

Loading the index page isn't bad, but when I click a category or a message, that is when everything on my computer seems to slow down, loading included. Perhaps I should just disable images. Maybe that would help. I am in northern Canada.

I tried disabling images with Prox here, and it does help. The forum server changes images if you have read new messages, which means even going back to a previous page requires redoing the page. That no longer happens with images blocked. Maybe it is the combination of re-reading cookies, changing cookies and the list of what has been read, and redoing images that is the problem?
