Does anyone have any recommendations on software that logs sites visited by name and IP address?
I'm looking for an app that runs in the background and logs to a .txt or .log file the sites visited...
The "end in mind", for those following the forum, is for Proxo to read this .txt or .log file and display visually what IP Address the site currently being viewed is at...
edit: ps - I should add that DNSKong is *NOT* an app that I will EVER try again - EVER! I've given it MORE than a "fair shake"...
Hi ProxRocks,
Assuming I use DNSKong, and as it does stores in the same form as the HOSTS file does the web address and IP address ( look in the presets of DNSKong) can u please help me with a filter to display the IP address ?
Thanks
Garcot
IF I could get DNSKong to work, I'd be MORE than happy to help out...
BUT I will *NOT* give ONE more second of MY time to DNSKong...
I've revisited it and revisited it and revisited it SEVERAL times in the past eight months or so...
And never once did it do a d@mn thing, never once did its log file show ANYTHING whatsoever...
I am FAR from "computer illiterate"...
Admittedly, networking is not my forte - but nor SHOULD IT BE for me, a VERY competent and proficient computer user since the days of the grand ol' Commodore 64 and Apple IIe, for me to get a tiny little app like DNSKong to function properly...
My SINCEREST apologies, but I will *NOT* waste MY time with DNSKong EVER again... NEVER AGAIN!!!
And for you EAP fans - Quoth the raven, NEVERMORE!
ProxRocks,
We can use " Sniphere" a great real-time tool which logs the IP in realtime. You can get the same from
http://www.securesphere.net !
You got to use it to believe it!
Thanks
Garcot
I didn't see any "log file" being generated by Sniphere...
If the user has to 'actively' save the content being logged to a file, then it isn't doing us any good to have it run in the background...
Hi
"Guyz",
There is a program that I used to use a long time ago. It ran in the background, and as You surfed it added all the urls and IPs to Your host file. It worked for IE, Netscape, and Opera. Then You could have it configured to "verify" all the Url/IP automatically. It was a good program. But when I got into security issues, I didn't think it was good to have the host log the sites, so I stopped using it. I have thought of using it and "encrypting" the host file.
Right now I can't remember the name of the proggie, but I will look and see if I have it on an older "back-up" disk. I have good memory, . . . it's just "short".
You also could use "Proxo" to capture the URLs and Add it to a list. You could modify the "Host Grabber" filter that I have and make it add all the URLs to a txt list. That probably would be easier on resources. But in the mean time I will look for the other proggie I was talking about.

PS. I could never get DNSkong to work for me either.
Here is a link to the Older Forum were we were discussing this Program.

The name of the program is FastNet99 and there is a new version out. I haven't tried it so I'm not sure how well it performs. The older version worked great for Me. I did a google search and there a several links where You can download it from.

Nice link to that old forum Jak . REE1 and I are one and the same . Jeez , I was much smarter 2 years ago ! I did use FastNet 99 for a while but had problems with frequent freeze ups so I got rid of it . Still learning but getting there takes longer . Have a pleasant evening , Ralph

I had the same problem and had WebWasher chained between Browser and Prox for a long while - just to get a proper log (combined log file format).
Thing is that WW is a resource hog. A few weeks ago i switched to Squid which also (and in the first place) serves as a caching proxy (one cache for all browsers that is - the browsers own cache can be set to memory-only then).
I have a Squid version here- modified from
squid-2.5.STABLE7-NT-CVS - that allows for any log file format and has a changed URL security to enable Prox URL commands and dot aliases. If anyone wants it, just drop a PM (Geocities may kick me if posting a public D/L link).

hey, sidki revived the month old topic. So here's my conribution to this thread.

Yosponge got DNSKong to work. Mentions eDexter too. Wonder if that's any help at all.
ALso, you could get your firewall to give you a log (Outpost has nice logs)
