Just tried Proximodo v2.1 and still can't log on to Windows Messenger.

Same messages as for v2.0.

Back to Proxomitron. [angry]

You may have noticed that Proximodo is in alpha stage.
Which basically means it's intended for people that like testing it to help Antony making it an excellent and stable program in a future stage.

That kind of help also implies useful bug reports.

I don't remember when you first mentioned this issue... Didn't I suggest it was because MSN needs https and Proximodo doesn't support https yet? The solution is to set your browser to use localhost for http and no proxy for https.
As Sidki says, Proximodo is not yet mature, and needs more work before it can be used instead of Proxo.

I'm not sure it matters, but it's Windows Messenger, not MSN Messenger.

In your response you suggested it had to do with <CR> and <LF>s

Thought it may have been fixed in 2.1, seems it isn't and I'm just letting you know that I'm still here and looking at Proximodo (with much anticipation)

Now, here is the real reason. Had I correctly read your log, I could have told you earlier: the log says
CONNECT loginnet.passport.com:443 HTTP/1.0

The CONNECT method relates to SSL tunneling, in extenso https (port 443 is "https"). That method is not supported until https developments. Only GET and POST at the moment.

So I confirm that the temporary solution is to set your browser to use no proxy (or another proxy) for https.

Thanks for that, I'll try that and see how I go.

Will report back, one way or the other, after a few days.

Well, that's a first, for me at least. I was under the impression that WM, as designed by Microsoft, was a very poor security risk. That, and no QoS (Quality of Service, a priority rating system to ensure packet delivery) pretty much leaves WM out in the cold for Internet use. Or so I was led to believe.

Obviously, my impressions were quite mistaken. By the mere fact of your location, you've proved that WM is, indeed, international in scope! :o

Actually, I only use WM for the odd quick chat. When I want to A/V with someone, we both switch to Eyeball Chat.

I don't know how 'secure' it is, but both the audio and video are miles ahead of WM.

More than anything WM is used to 'alert' me that my friends and associates are 'online'. Other than that it doesn't get used all that much.

Hey, I wasn't jumping up and down or anything, I just wondered why everyone else I'd ever heard spoke ill of WM, and here you come along with a "Works for me" statement. I just had to ask, that's all.

OTOH, I have to admit, IM just isn't my thing. Might be some day in the future, or might never be.... we'll never know until after I've checked out, now will we? <_< That's why I always say "Carry On!" [lol]

Thanks for that, but I'm not that worried about secure chatting. I can't imagine anyone being interested in my conversations with my brother(s).
