Welcome to the new BFilter forums and a big thanks to Kye-U for hosting it!

In case you don't know, BFilter is an open source advertisement blocker hosted at http://bfilter.sourceforge.net It uses a "heuristic" approach to filter advertisements which means, it evaluates all fetched objects using it's own Javascript and Flash engines and gives points for various charachteristics advertisements have (or not have). If the total score is over a certain limit, it is considered as advertisement. In other words, if it looks like a duck and quacks, we shoot it.

Our goal is to achieve a maximum of filtering with a minimum of false positives and as we are lazy, without the need to constantly maintain huge block/exclusion/filterlists.

Yes you can if you like to. However, we do not recommend using BFilter along with any advertisement blocker besides if you are using only Kye-U's security filterset or a similar set which does not block url's. We made the experience that BFilter for example interferes with the AdBlock and BannerBlind extensions for FireFox.

Besides, it does not make things faster if you chain BFilter with another non-caching proxy. On the opposite it can in some situations speed the loading of pages up if a caching proxy like Squid is in front of BFilter.

The good news is that Kye-U and we are trying to port his set (besides of the few header related ones as BFilter does not offer the possibility to change headers yet) over to BFilter.
