I ran across a rather large (4383 bytes) flash embed here:

It blew right past my toggle filter due to the byte limit.
Of course, it tries to connect to doubleclick right away.

Anyway, I increased the byte limit to 5120.
I'm not sure how big it would be if it was coded as an object.

sidki's original toggle filter, albeit effective in toggling, does NOT prevent the CONNECTION...

go to a page with flash on it, do NOT toggle ANY of the flash "on"...
open your "what the Proxo is thinking" page...
you will note that not only was the CONNECTION established, but the ENTIRE .swf, every single MEGABYTE, has been downloaded...

so, what's the purpose in toggling if you didn't save any bandwidth, if you pinged the site hosting the flashie gyration?

when i "block" something (ie, toggle off and don't manually toggle it on), i don't want the hosting site pinged and i'm toggling to save bandwidth...
granted, the latter is less important these days, but still "important" to me

I just made a test. No swf was downloaded before I toggle any flash.

For me, the reason of toggling is not wasting space in my screen. If i can prevent the download double better.

you only tested one browser, not all of the "Big SIX" (IE, Firefox, Opera, GreenBrowser, Maxthon, Sleipnir)... :P

You are right.

Opera and Firefox won't but IE7 and GreenBrowser will download some flash before I toggle any flash. I didn't test Maxthon and Sleipnir but suppose they will behave the same because they use the same IE core.

Fortunately Opera is my major browser now and Firefox is the backup. Greenbrowser is the third and I seldom use it.

GreenBrowser -> Opera -> Sleipnir -> Maxthon -> Firefox ... in that order for me... i *never* use IE, just "shells"...

Opera "would" be my default *IF* hotkey shortcuts worked when NO TAB is in the tab-bar...

I used Maxthon many years ago, it was a very good browser, but my reason to change to firefox in these times was to avoid downloading of toggled swf's before unhiding. Nowadays, firefox downloads hided divs and iframes... (not swf's). Is supposedly used by programmers to accelerate the load of images you maybe see later... :/

A nice browser IE based is also TheWorld http://www.ioage.com/en/product.htm

BTW doesn't seems the browser from google to have many success ...

A small hijack:
FYI, Do you remember the tip of Graycode to create a folder with the name of the file to prevent its creation?
I saw a security tip for our pen drives, many virus tend to create a autorun.inf to autoexecute theirselfs when we plug the pen drive. We can disable autorun in our computers anyway, but it's safer to create a folder called autorun.inf for pluging them in other computers

One thing about Firefox is that there is a great extension for it called "Flashblock" which stops Flash items from loading, yet allows loading any item that you choose to load. All you need to do is click an icon over the space where the item would be.
