Sandboxie
If you like to download and test many programs, or simply want to test a doubtly executable, that's the program. Supose you install winamp in Sandboxie, in c:\winamp. All the software running inside sandboxie will see winamp there. If you run explorer in sandboxie, you will see it there, but the "real" explorer no. You can do all the installations or deletions you want. Later you can you to pass the changes to the real drive or to delet the sandboxie forgeting all the changes. Very very reccomended app!!
"Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer." Trust no program: http://www.sandboxie.com/ |

RE: Sandboxie
Indeed a nice program , Inminente . I tried it a year ago but it seemed to slow down my pc so I didn't stay with it . I'll check it out again . Another program which I use and can be run with Sandboxie is Returnil . It creates a virtual partition and you can try any program without making changes to your pc . If you think that a program is a keeper , I reinstall in the "live" mode . Regards , Ralph

RE: Sandboxie
Ralph, I didn't noticed any slow down hope it works better for you now. Thanks letting us know about Returnil.
Proxrocks, Uff.. I had a bad experience with virtualbox, it's a good program, and i used it to have Win98 over WinXP but be careful with the USB drivers it installs, could interfere with your actual USB drivers. Anyway Sandboxie is intended to protect your actual SO like a kind of firewall to decide wich writings can be made in your hard disk, not needing to install twice the XP, neither booting the virtual machine. |

RE: Sandboxie
not noticed any issues with USB...
they've improved GREATLY just in the past few months (ie, "shared" directories between the virtual and the host is no longer a 'nightmare' for the DOS-impaired "i want everything done with a GUI" crowd)... |
