mambo Wrote:Hi!

As Tony Tough, i'm on DSL and directly connected via PPPOE, too.
mambo

Maybe this is the common denominator.

If Kye-U confirms similar connection type maybe:

"i'm on DSL and directly connected via PPPOE"

I'd also be looking at the xp sp2 connection if many report this problem with this config.

Cable Modem
I use TCP Optimize and my RWIN is 450000 ... when I switch Proxo off as a proxy my RWIN setting is still 450000 ... so I quit frankly do not understand the issue here

Yes I am connected to the Internet via the following chain:

Cable Modem-->Router-->4 PC's Windows XP/Pro/SP2

Yes Proxo does slow things down a little bit ... however using sidki's latest config [16-Oct-2005] --- I have noticed that the INET stuff is significantly faster over configs dated prior to 09-Jun-2005

above is great info.

mozerd,

so using proxomitron when you go here: http://forums.speedguide.net:8117/

your rwin is reported as 450000 same as in your registry?

if this is the case maybe the common thread is above win2k sp2 & ppoe or dsl (and maybe the issue of not using a router)

I am also on cable and am not having this issue.

waiting for Kye-U to see if he is ppoe or dsl w/out router (he has already confirmed xp sp2 and experiences the problem...

___________________________________________________

p.s. I wonder if this is the same issue Nethan reported here back @ 12/25/2004:

http://prxbx.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=364

what a hoot as Nethan was on dsl but with Windows 2000 SP2 reporting similar issues as Tony... so maybe it is dsl or ppoe with Win2k and above sp2 which is the common thread

I'm interested in the answer mozerd.
If the answer is yes, have you disabled the Windows Firewall and/or the "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" service?

While we are waiting, would one of the afflicted try the test with the Windows Firewall off and the service killed. Add OS version to your post, Windows XP/Pro/SP2 or Windows XP/Home/SP2.

Thanks,

The answer is Yes. My Windows Firewall is disabled --- I use the firewall provided by my ZyWALL 5 Router and I do not use ICS --- FYI I am a System Engineer [Communications/Networks] :-)

And my RWIN is 450000 in both the XP/SP2 Registry as well as the TCP Optimize application that is provided by speedguide.net --- sorry I was late responding.

I had a car that cost less than that Router. ;-)
But yeah, I also have a router with "firewall".

Late but a very welcome answer. :-)

There may be a problem, however. The default XP/Home install does do what is reported when used with Proxomitron. Lets hope this part of XPHome works like XPPro. This afternoon I forgot to check.

So now some XP/Home/SP2 people need to answer.
Turn the Windows Firewall and/or the service off run the test.
You may need to reboot before the test.
Turn the firewall back on.

I'm using XP/Home/SP2 with windows firewall and as described I have the problem with the 32768 limit.

I made this test and turned off the windows firewall and then rebooted.
And now the CORRECT RWIN is submitted according to speedguide anylyzer and I have full speed.

I always have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

So, does this mean the windows firewall is the problem?

SORRY, FORGET MY LAST POST.

I hadn't started proxomitron while doing the test without windows firewall.

So I tested it again and turning on or of windows firewall and reboot has no effect, still RWIN reduced to 32768.

As I said I'm using XP/Home/SP2.

No problem with BFilter and proximodo.
So I'll stick with BFilter because it is also a very good program.

Peakaboo Wrote:How many of those reporting this problem are using winXP sp2?

Can you point to any authoritative documentation which would suggest such a link?

Fwiw both Speedguide and the tweak test at DSLR record my rwin as 65535, with or without Proxo. I am running WinXP SP2.

Get hpHOSTS!

I believe ICS is separate from the firewall.
Did you have it disabled when you tested without the fiewall?

Thanks,
