HTTPS on PrxBx - Kye-U - Jun. 28, 2010 06:58 AM Sorry for the inactivity: working full-time while juggling university extracurriculars and taking an online course! I've just had a brainwave and wanted to know: 1) How buying a digital SSL certificate for PrxBx.com sounds (e.g. is it necessary?) 2) If anyone can recommend a service (e.g. best value) For #2, I've done some searching, and there's DigiCert, Thawte, GoDaddy, AlphaSSL. Depending on responses in this thread, I may go ahead with getting HTTPS for PrxBx and create an online PayPal donation form, where all money will go towards buying the certificate. RE: HTTPS on PrxBx - whenever - Jun. 28, 2010 01:33 PM The question is, what good does https add to this site? RE: HTTPS on PrxBx - ProxRocks - Jun. 28, 2010 02:57 PM i can't say as i see any "need" for HTTPS... *unless* that's how we get rid of the one-time-only posters that post "spam", be it in the forum or be it via private messages, and then NEVER EVER log in EVER again... ie, if they "had to" jump through an HTTPS thingie when they signed up their "i will only use this ONCE" username, would we have "weeded out" that riff-raff? i have a username/password on a few sites that get *BLOCKED* and i need to click a link for a new password to be e-mailed to me... the "block" happens "automatically" if i don't log into the site during a seven-day period... ie, if i don't visit prxbx again until a MONTH from today, i would be "blocked" until i signed in with the new password that is mailed to me... i'm not saying we need to do that - for one, our "riff-raff" has narrowed down significantly since our last forum software upgrade... RE: HTTPS on PrxBx - sidki3003 - Jun. 28, 2010 03:59 PM I wouldn't know why we'd need SSL here, but if we do, there are also free (as in free beer) certification authorities, like http://www.cacert.org/ . |
