Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
All of a sudden, yesterday I could no longer look at videos at YouTube. I updated to the latest flash player, even deleting the old one, still no video. Finally, after just about giving up, at the suggestion of someone to disable popup blockers, I disabled Proxomitron. Bingo. I can watch videos on YouTube.
Why would Proxomitron all of a sudden prevent me from watching videos at YouTube? Did YouTube make a change that conflicts with Proxomitron? Gary Will Fly for Food |

RE: Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
it is NOT Proxo that "won't allow YouTube", it's the CONFIG that you are using...
to help you, we need to know what config you are using... |

RE: Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
Well, how do I find that out? All I know is that I am using Version: Naoko 4.6 (2003-6-1) from the about tab in Proxomitron.

RE: Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
when you open up your "webpage filters", does one of the very top few filters say anything about the year/month/day that the config was released?

No. Here is a screen shot of what I see, if I am looking in the right place.

RE: Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
There is a filter from the original default.cfg file that was blocking the videos in YouTube, and that problem started recently. The filter is Kill window.external methods, and the domain blocked is ytimg. I had to make an exception to filtering that domain with that filter.

RE: Proxomitron Won't Allow YouTube
wingspar, to really gain the full range of capabilities within Proxo, i'd really suggest updating your config to something newer than the defalut comes-with-Proxo config...
Proxo 4.5 came out in May/June of 2003... YouTube was founded by three former PayPal employees in February 2005... why would you "expect" a config that came out in 2003 to see into the future and function properly for a web site (and perhaps even a MIME-type) that wasn't even around until two years later ??? that's why the most IMPORTANT aspect of Proxo is maintaining up-to-date configs... updating the CONFIG is pretty much the same as "patching" your Operating System, imo... |

I’ll attach a screen shot of my Kill window.external methods filter to this post, so that what I have can be seen. If you can provide the code to place in there, that would help. Well, I’ve used Proxomitron since I don’t know when anymore. This problem with YouTube only cropped up recently, as Siamesecat also mentioned. I have never had an issue with not seeing videos at YouTube till this week. Proxomitron has always worked behind the scenes without issue. As far as updating config’s, I had no idea they were being kept up, and really have no idea where to look for the updates, or how to accomplish the updates, tho I could probably find them and figure it out, it would take me a while. I am just a simple end user who has used Proxomitron for years, but have never updated a config, and until I found this forum that someone in another forum pointed me to just this week, had no idea the program was being kept updated. Actually, I only found out about 4.5, and downloaded it back in March of this year thanks to someone in another forum. What you say makes total sense, but I come here as a total Dummy looking for help. Gary Will Fly for Food |

Sorry, I can’t find any filters in the clipboard. Make sure any text is formatted correctly. I tried typing it in manually, and I got another error message, something to the effect of improper code. I spent a fair amount of time yesterday reading thru the links in the sticky at the top of this forum, Proxomitron~ All Your Needed Resources by Kye-U, and learned a lot. Lots of those links in that sticky no longer work at all. That’s where I found out how to import the code I see posted here, tho it didn’t work for me. I also downloaded the Beta config 2008-01-02 zip file, and extracted the files, but had no idea what to do with what I extracted. I saw no .exe file. Gary Will Fly for Food |

I did not save the filter, so I'm back to where I've been. What do those smiley faces have to do with the filter? I'm guessing that they don't import as smiley faces tho... <) is < ) without the space? Gary Will Fly for Food |

YouTube add Video Link 2.1 HTML: Youtube.com: Download-Links [MB] [Unnamed Pattern] The filters are also in red. I remember reading something about filters in red the other day, but for the life of me, I can’t find it again. I still can’t view videos at YouTube unless I disable Proxomitron.
