Google says Google stopped nosslsearch at the end of 2014. Almost certain I had one machine using it in 2015 and maybe 16, however.

I think there must be more to this. It doesn't work for me.
The user agent changes but the search is https before the Proxomitron sees it.

HSTS may be the culprit in both.

Are you using a Strict-Transport-Security header filter?

RE: Google Web Site Problems
ProxRocks ... I found the Lists - sidki_l_2011-12-22rc1 - Exceptions-U.ptxt file in my setup. I have one question ... I tried inserting the Code and it doesn't seem to work for me.

However, I am not 100% clear on where to place the Code ... you said the "top".

open that FILE with NOTEPAD and add this to the top:
Code:
# Google Search - results pages
(www|images).google.com/
$SET(0=f_ua_gbot.)

When you say top ... do you mean at the very top just BELOW these marks ?

############################################

or do you mean just above these marks and also the word Code: must also be there?

So this way: the very "top" just over the ##### top line ...

Code:
# Google Search - results pages
(www|images).google.com/
$SET(0=f_ua_gbot.)
############################################

or this way ... just under the top ####### line ?

############################################
Code:
# Google Search - results pages
(www|images).google.com/
$SET(0=f_ua_gbot.)

I'm thinking you mean right under the ###### top row marks but now I'm not sure. I have used Proxomitron for years but have limited knowledge of making changes.

I see JJoe is saying it doesn't seem to work for him ... when I tried it both ways ... I see something similar.

nothing in the Proxo log suggests that i am (or am not?)...
also never heard of HSTS so i wouldn't have added it (or removed it?) from the base config (sidki_l_2011-12-22rc1)...

RE: Google Web Site Problems
guess a number of things could be happening that i do that the base config does not do -

1) i BLOCK all scripts by default
2) i BLOCK all cookies by default
3) i use Half-SSL
4) i use my own Google Theme Pack
5) i do 95% of my browsing using GreenBrowser + Proxomitron
6) i do 5% of my browsing using below portable browsers without Proxomitron

i will post a modified base config later today for you guys to test...

will test that modified base config with my portable browsers (QupZilla 1.8.9, Pale Moon 26.5.0 (Atom/WinXP), Opera@USB 12.18)...

RE: Google Web Site Problems
hmmm...

in compiling my version of the base config with all personal data removed, i did stumble into the below header filter...
so it could be the "Strict-Transport-Security" - have not tested to confirm...

Code:
In = TRUE
Out = FALSE
Key = "Strict-Transport-Security: HSTS Force Zero Age (In) [ADD]"
Match = "max-age=\0"
Replace = "max-age=0$LOG(R$DTM(c) : [HDR:Strict-Transport-Security] HSTS Force Zero Age: \0)"

RE: Google Web Site Problems
Pale Moon observations (from my config, not sidki's base config) -

Google will work fine (no-httpS) if you type in http://www.google.com in the ADDRESS bar and NEVER use the SEARCH bar adjacent to the ADDRESS bar...

use the SEARCH bar and Google filters will no longer work because of httpS...

Google filters will work again only after closing Pale Moon (which clears my cache also)...

Opera observations (my config) -

Google will NOT redirect thru httpS regardless of using ADDRESS bar or SEARCH bar...
but my google search bar address may not be default - mine is "ht-tp://www.google.com/search?q=%s" (minus quotes and dash)...

RE: Google Web Site Problems
CONCLUSION -

the redirecting to httpS for Google searches is being "forced" by PALE MOON (via the SEARCH bar and internal cacheing after that search bar is used)...

i suspect that K-Meleon has this same FLAW...

RE: Google Web Site Problems
have not tried (since Pale Moon is NOT my default browser), but it appears that you can create your own "search engine" for the search bar from -

here - http://ready.to/search/en/

or here - http://mycroftproject.com/submitos.html

RE: Google Web Site Problems
ProxRocks ... thanks for your effort and time figuring out the Google httpS problem or situation. I had somehow figured this out a little on my own last week with Pale Moon ... but I did not know for sure what I had done. Last week Pale Moon was working with the dark blue Google page back again ... but only on Pale Moon, not K-Meleon or Opera ... which I had just put back on my computer.

I have been trying so many different things and I just wasn't sure "how" I got Pale Moon working again with the dark blue Google page but it stayed ... didn't go away ... until 'all day' yesterday, I put my backup back on the computer and the Google Search page was white again with the moving animation.

When you posted your results yesterday about the three browsers ... I tried the Pale Moon fix and I have the Google dark blue page back again and no httpS. You are correct when you say the "fix" doesn't work with the K-Meleon and Opera browser.

I have in my Favorites / Links folder four search pages ...
numbered 01 to 04

01 DuckDuckGo
02 StartPage
03 Bing
04 Google

So I just changed the the Google URL to the one you supplied and Pale Moon works just fine. Pale Moon uses DuckDuckGo as the default search engine and I was thinking of changing that to Google ... but I just read this a few hours ago from the Pale Moon creator.

Managing search engines in Pale Moon

Mon Aug 15, 2016

The in-browser search engines in Pale Moon are managed with a few simple controls, allowing you to select, add and remove search engines of your choice.

Selecting a different search engine:

In the search bar, click the logo/drop-down arrow next to the input field to open up the menu with search engines.

Please note that selecting a different search engine here will change your search engine for search bar, address bar, about:home and context searches.

Please also note that using a different search engine than the default (DuckDuckGo) will effectively end your support for the Pale Moon browser through searches (which provides the majority of our funding). if you want to support us, kindly consider using DDG for the bulk of your search needs.

.... so, since DuckDuckGo helps them with funding ... I will leave the default search engine as is ... if I need Google, I will click on it in the Links folder.

RE: Google Web Site Problems
ughh...
never heard that DuckDuckGo funds Pale Moon...

NO WAY IN HADES DO I WANT ANY SEARCH ENGINE GETTING ANY SORT OF FUNDING BASED ON MY SEARCHES !!!

NO, NOT BECAUSE I AM "HIDING" ANYTHING, FAR FROM, IT'S JUST D@MN COMMON SENSE WHEN IT COMES TO "PRIVACY RIGHTS"...

i will NO LONGER, *EVER*, use DuckDuckGo !!!...
and will be seriously thinking twice before even using Pale Moon from here forward !!!...

RE: Google Web Site Problems
Thanks for your input on DDG ... I thought it was OK for them to get some funding in that way. At the DuckDuckGo web site they post this:

DuckDuckGo

The search engine that doesn't track you.

1 We don't store your personal information.
2 We don't follow you around with ads.
3 We don't track you, including private browsing mode.

Of course for me ... I do very little searching with Pale Moon, I only fire up PM when my older K-Meleon version is having a problem with a web page. That isn't very often ... so you don't think PM receiving some funding support from DuckDuckGo is a great idea ... even when they seem to be pretty neutral in what they do, with no tracking?

I suppose any web site can say one thing and do the opposite ... I don't know. I will have to dig around or "search" this out more.

Still using WinXP ... I thought the PM Atom portable browser was a good way to go for a more modern up-to-date browser. I like the older KM browser since I can easily turn JavaScript on and off.

Any good working browsers to recommend for WinXP?

I guess I will have to live and adjust in 2016 and the future as my XP setup gets older by the hour.

RE: Google Web Site Problems
i continue to use WinXP and do not see that changing in the immediate future...
i've tried 7 and 10...
it's the TELEMETRY crap that keeps me from sticking with 10 !!!...

generally speaking, i think that "privacy rights" are DEAD...
we only fool ourselves thinking anything we do via a web browser isn't being "data mined" by somebody somewhere...

which web browser anybody uses should be based more on "ergonomics" than anything...

but yeah, no way in Hades should a person just blindly enable javascript or allow any-and-all cookies...

and NO WAY IN HADES should any web browser (the person) be "adding" *ANY* type of "third-party EXTENSION" to their web browser (the software)...

NO EXTENSIONS !!!...

adding EXTENSIONS to any web browser is what introduces security risks !!!
