Getting rid of annoying background

I decided to sign up and get a username (was "guest" the original poster)

Does anyone else think dimming bright backgrounds deserves it's own thread? I think it would be great to get everyone's best ideas and filters together so that they could be streamlined into something more efficient and effective. I would certainly add the filters I'm currently using, which in combination, do a fairly good job, but are probably bloated or crudely constructed.
