Oddysey , I was asked by Outpost if I wanted to allow IE and I said yes and gave it browser default settings . That's when I got the problems I guess and thats why I was having problems with Kye-U proxy recommendations in stealth surfing . I have to try those elite proxies again . With regard to my imaging program I use BING which has saved my tookas many times . I had just done a new image with the mistake , so I couldn't easily go back . I have some images on CD-R's but they were a couple of months old and my pc changed a half dozen times since I did them . BING ( http://www.bootitng.com ) does allow you to choose a specific file to restore , I usually just restore the entire image which takes about 20 minutes .

Ralph;
Understood about Bing, etc. How much hair did you pull out when you discovered that your backup was also bogus? Me, I just use an old hard drive I had laying around after my last upgrade. I've got a "removable" type carrier that slides into a 5.25" bay, and the old drive is mounted in that. When I want to backup or restore, I just slide that puppy into the magic slot, reboot (the BIOS has to recognize the drive), and then use some form of the xcopy command. Ta-da! Instant full fledged backup (or restore, as needed).When I'm done, out comes the drive, and back into the cabinet it goes. If there's ever a Class One meltdown, then that drive is safe - it wasn't near enough to the machine to be harmed! Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

Nice way to backup , Oddysey . I use BING to backup my system at least 3 times a week . Prior to doing the b/u the system is running at it's best and I've scanned for all bad guys . I place the backup on another partition and then burn it to a cd when I have time . The last time I did a b/u I had IE in Outpost and I didn't realize I had a problem until I went back to IE to browse . MY IE 2 has been great for me ; I tried Opera , Avant , Firebird and felt more at ease with MY IE 2 . It's always good to chat with you , Regards , Ralph

I also use Bootit ng for boot control and imaging. I have images burned of my system at different stages for whatever I want to go back to. I don't back up but prefer to do out of OS images. I like trying out software and after a while I like to restore an image and start fresh. I also prefer MyIE2 as my browser of choice, but Avant browser is good too. Firefox is the best of the other browsers out there.

besafe and Ralph;
As for other browsers, it's a personal game. I'm just sad that many of the more popular ones under Windows are not available on Unix/Linux platforms, nor even on BSD. Yet. When I use Fedora or SuSe 9.0, I'm fairly happy with Mozilla (included in both distros), but I miss some of my IE habits, I have to admit. Plus, I can't use Proxo under anything else but Windows, so I'm stuck here when I want to surf. Makes re-booting from one OS to the other a pain, so I end up in the Windows domain most of my machine-on time. I still use Linux for website development under PERL, PHP, javascript, etc. The secure shell is lot easier for this old fart to understand and use. Firefox is from Mozilla and should work with the Linux distros. I like it better than Mozilla.

besafe;
OK, so maybe I should look at Firefox as a browser under Linux, but that still doesn't get me The Proxomitron. [angry] [beatdown] Thanks for the tip and the link. Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |
