question about my filters and myspace
a week or two ago, i downloaded from this board a couple filter packs for proxomitron. ive been quite satisfied with these, except for one thing ive noticed. when i go to myspace, one of the filters (i dont know which) prevents the "online now" status from being displayed on my friends list. i ascertained this by enabling proxomitron, and having the status not work, then disabling it, and the online staus began again to work. do any of you guys know which filter may be responsible for this? id kinda like to know when my friends are online ;(
thanks in advance ps- what happened to the smiley where the guy was holding his hand up in the rock n roll symbol?? (first and last fingers up, middle two down) i liked that one |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
chrome;
Quote:....You've got a couple of options for troubleshooting this one. First, most guys will tell you to use the Log Window to spot which filters are kicking in, but I personally prefer to use the dbug function. If you're not familiar with that one, the short course is this: preface a URL with the word 'dbug' followed by two dots, and then the whole URL from the www onwards. Place the dbug command after the http:// (or https://), that's important. Example: http://dbug..www.google.com. (If the original URL didn't have a www (like this very forum), then don't put one in.) When you do this, you see the source code for the whole page, and within that text, you'll find every filter used. The word "Match" will be shown in red, and both the found text string and the replacement will be shown, too. Unlike the Log Window, this will tell you what was found, and what was done with it. I find this feature particularly handy when I have trouble with more than one filter glomming onto the same string. I resolve "Multi" issues this way, with ease. Now, all of that said, you didn't specify which filter packs you d/l'ed, so I can't help you with a specific suggestion. But if you use the method above, and search the source code for "online" (or some similar term), then I'm sure you'll find which filter is the culprit. But if that doesn't do the trick, report back here for more help! ![]() Quote:ps- what happened to the smiley where the guy was holding his hand up in the rock n roll symbol?? (first and last fingers up, middle two down) i liked that oneThat was "rocker", a bogus smilie if I ever saw one. Way, way too fast. That wasn't rocking, that was getting sea-sick! If our Fearless Leader brings it back, I have a filter ready and waiting to blast it to smithereens! >:]Hey, hope all this helped! Good luck. I sure do remember trying to link Opera - Proxo and Freecap but it ran very slowly . I dumped Freecap shortly after . I was getting over my head again . I'm using Opera 8.54 as my main browser with Proxomitron . However , I find it slower than IE ; I haven't tried Opera 9.0 yet . MSIE runs faster but is a PIA since I recently installed some MS security patches which have caused some glitches . Best regards |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
Thanks for trying to help oddyssey- i tried the debug function in opera with this url:http://dbug..browseusers.myspace.com/browse/browse.aspx?&MyToken=c56f3f14-a4f6-4335-908d-a55e1bf5742e
proxomitron popped up and said no dice ;( then i opened a log window, broswed users on myspace, copied the log into a text file, and found the words "online now" in the following context, ready? +++GET 257+++ GET /images/onlinenow.gif HTTP/1.0 User-Agent: Opera/9.00 (Windows NT 5.0; U) Host: x.myspace.com Accept: text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, */*;q=0.1 Accept-Language: en_US,en;q=0.9 Accept-Charset: iso-8859-1, utf-8, utf-16, *;q=0.1 REFERER: http://x.myspace.com/images/onlinenow.gif If-Modified-Since: Tue, 23 Nov 2004 16:41:09 GMT Cookie: NGUserID=(deleted to prevent extreme horizontal scrolling) Cookie2: $Version=1 Connection: keep-alive BlockList 258: in Bypass, line 19 BlockList 259: in Bypass, line 19 any ideas? <rocker smiley> [u] |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
chrome;
When I use the dbug function with your address (in fact, I just copied it right out of your message, and pasted it into a new browser session), I got the expected results. No BS from Proxo, just a lot of Match statements! ![]() Again, since you and I are using wildly different filter sets, you need to make this function work for you in order to see which filter is actually taking your "friends now on-line" out of the picture. My filters don't seem to be touching it - is that a good thing or not? ![]() Your log window showed a humongous cookie, so I deleted it from your post (Admins can do that kind of thing.) Aside from causing the window to stretch horizontally like about million pixels, it contained no filter information, so it was superflous to fixing our present problem. Not your fault, I'm just saying that's the reason you don't see what you thought you posted. ![]() According to your Log report, you are only hitting one filter, twice. What's in your Bypass list, on Line 19? Seems to me that this might indicate that some of the things you are expecting are getting through because they were successfully "Bypassed" (lines 258 and 259 of the source HTML code), but others are getting knocked off because they aren't on your Bypass list. Let's check this out before looking elsewhere. Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
well, after I clicked the proxomitron log window, and clicked html bug info- then go to a site normally, it does what you are describing. i looked for matches relating to the online now, and as I thought I came upon them, I disabled the filters in proxomitron. These efforts unfortunately proved to be in vain ;(
I am using the default prox filters, key-u's security pack, sidki filters, and maybe a couple others. is this overkill? right now ive resorted to keeping one config with all the filters merged, and one with just the defauly proxomitron filters, which seems to work properly with myspace, and switching between them when i visit myspace. funny, you would think this kind of thing could be resolved ;( funny also, how much time can be spent workin on one tiny aspect of something- good thing my hard drive doesnt need partitioning and my operating system reinstalled, i guess |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
Chrome,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to ya...... I have no idea why the Frame Jumper-Outer might be affecting your friends. All it does is insert a target statement in the link, so that shouldn't be a problem. The keyword here being "shouldn't". The other Match you showed has nothing to do with your missing friends. Note the </Match> right after the </old-body>? That means that the match has stopped acting - anything you see between <Match> and </Match> is what the filter found. In theory, whatever the filter is supposed to use for the Replace string should follow immediately after the </Match> tag. Don't forget that sometimes we just want to remove something entirely, so there is no replacement text. In your case, what followed afterwards was an iframe and a script that set a bunch of variables, neither of which were in the Replace string, I'd be willing to bet. ![]() I have no clue where to go next on this one. Perhaps it would be 'prudent' to ask sidki3003 for assistance on this one? Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

RE: question about my filters and myspace
Odessey, with limited support on subjects of these types, I decided i'd just have to exercise a little patience, and once I begin thiking this way, things improved. I mean after all, its just some html filters that need to be configured properly, not the end of the world. With opera 9 running, agnitum firewall, nod32 antivirus, process guard, and a couple others, I rather doubt anything is going to happen to my system anyway....
So, I uninstalled proxomitron, started back with the default filters, and then carefully began to watch things- id select a few filters, clear the cache, and reload, until I determined that it was the "kill javascript timers" filter that was knocking out the online now thing. Now im moving along with the add in filters and checking things in the same fashion, whats the rush, after all? To bad theres not a way to learn more about these filters and what they do, bcause I just have to try and guess from the name of filter, what it does- not a great way to go about it. Thanks much for your help |
