New Prox User!
Hi all. Lately I've been wanting to use browsers other than Firefox, and the content blocking for other browsers isn't exactly up to par yet. I'd like to get Proxomitron working to replace ABP. Typically with ABP, I'd use Fanboy's filters and call it a day.

I know Prox is much more powerful than this, but I'd merely like to have it block the content that ABP would normally, if not more efficiently.

I know a lot of Prox regulars have compiled multiple filters that best suit their needs, but I admit to being pretty confused about what filters to start with, and the best way to set up Prox.

If anyone can do a little hand holding, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks all. Smile!

RE: New Prox User!
i myself "refuse" to use web browser "plugins", if the browser doesn't "come with" a feature, i'm not about to spend countless hours hunting and fetching "plugins"...

that said, i have no clue what "fanboy" or "ABP" is...

BUT that doesn't mean i/we can't help you along...
but how about some details as to what "fanboy" is blocking?

RE: New Prox User!
Sure. ABP is Adblock Pro. I guess I should have spelled it out, but it's such a "household name" at this point that I figured everyone would know, so sorry about that! Fanboy makes filter lists for it, and I typically use these three:

https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-adblock.txt
https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-tracking.txt
https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-addon.txt

They seem to work very well for me. Not 100% perfect, but does a great job overall. I'm just looking for great ad blocking that works across multiple browsers. That way I can enjoy Chrome and/or IE9 without having inferior ad blocking to Firefox options.

Hopefully this helps a bit more. Thanks again!

RE: New Prox User!
Actually, ABP is Adblock Plus, not Adblock Pro, and it is not a plugin, it is an extension. It works very well with an Easylist subscription. I am now using it with Windows Firefox in addition to Proxomitron. If I am forced to bypass filtering because I cannot figure out which filter(s) happen to be screwing up a webpage, I still have the ads blocked. By the way, it also will filter the encrypted pages, which Prox will no longer do.

It appears that Proxo continues to filter SSL encrypted HTTP fine for me. What is the reason that it stopped working for you Siamesecat?

RE: New Prox User!
The dll files that decrypt and re-encrypt the secure pages do not behave very well with today's security methods. I kept getting error messages instead of filtered pages. I thought the reason was that the newest ones will not be accepted by Prox, and the older ones are out of date and will not work with the present methods of encryption.

RE: New Prox User!
True, there are occasional problems with Proxo-filtered SSL encrypted HTTP pages, but generally it works fine with these old DLLs: http://sidki.proxfilter.net/prox-ssl.html
I have tried hard to find newer files compiled with "add all algorithms" for them to be compatible with Proxo, but unfortunately could not find them. Anybody?
