"PROXO-TOR NETWORK"

HI "no13",
Glad that You found the trouble! LOL, . .whole lot better than re-format, . .install, , ,download service pack, , ,etc. Smile!

Working with the TOR/Privoxy set-up, . .I've learned a few things about the Socks protocol. I would never would have guessed that changing from Socks5 to Socks4 would have fixed the problem You were having. Possibly what was happening was Your machine was trying to resolve the URLs on a local level and You were seeing this happening.

Now if You are using a Socks5 or Sock4 protocol, . .Your machine will actually contact the DNS server of the site You are surfing to in order to resolve the URL to the site's IP. Just think of it, . . Your Machine is contacting the site, spilling Your IP, . .and telling the server that You are going to make an "ANONYMOUS CONNECTION"!!!! Sad,

. . .However, . .when You are using a "Socks4a protocol", . .the resolving is done through THE PROXY, . .not Your machine(local level). That's why the "T.O.R." program recommends using Privoxy because it can "Forward a Socks4a" request to the TOR network. Now of course I'm only guessing that this was the source of the problem that You were having. But that would explain why You were seeing those threads until You changed from Socks5 to Socks4 in the fire-fox browser.

I haven't tried the NTWrapper out yet, . .I've been very busy, . .so maybe "Magician" will stop by and shed some light on Your other question.

Oh and Good work on finding the problem, . .

Been busy myself, damn arse firebug lighting fires in Perth causing problems... [angry]

I'm not sure if you are asking a question about NTWrapper or not no13

NTWrapper will allow 3 applications to run under one service, but I think you are talking about manually creating services yourself in windows right?

What MS thinks about SC.EXE in XP

If you still want, I'll upload the combined registry files I discovered on my own(which means I won't be able to answer any questions, but I can ask questions, yea?)... I won't pretend to understand MOST of what I did, but the "dangerous" link will be best for info I guess.

manually doing it does get my geek senses tingling! :-) but its much easier having NTWrapper do it for me Smile!

I use to use Firedeamon a while ago but thay not longer have a free version that compares to NTWrapper.

I like having Proxomitron, Privoxy and TOR and grouped together as 1 service so they all start and end together and can be automaticaly restarted if they close for any reason

have fun at college no13 Big Teeth

doing it manually will reduce one MORE overhead at system start [NTWwrapper is no longer called to start/end a service]

I'll try a batch file, and I'll try directly calling 3 services.
OR... i can simply call Proxo, causing it to call Privoxy and Tor via the startup list inside proxo, which Jak uses so nicely! [another COMBINED batch file of course]

Hi "Guyz",
Good Links! Smile! Good work!
Maybe after this week I'll be able to spend alittle more time on checking a couple of these programs out.
I like the Proxo/Privoxy/TOR setup too. I think TOR has picked up a couple more servers. It's running alittle faster and somewhat smoother for Me.
You "Guyz" take care and have a Great & Wonderful Week-end,

Tor 0.0.9.3 is now out!

http://tor.freehaven.net/download.html

Quote:2005-01-21: Tor 0.0.9.3 improves cpu usage, works better when the network was offline and you try to use Tor, and makes hidden services less unbearable.

No13, I have it installed and it's working fine! Thanks! Cheers

One final note about the services thing.
I've found a VC++ developer willing to help me build the app Wink

TOR has been updated to 0.0.9.4

mainly a server fix if you are running TOR as a server instead of as a client, but its an update none the less Smile!

On a side note the TOR network seems to have slowed down lately (15th Feb) for the last couple of days, I seem to be noticing quite a slow down.

Anyone else notice this? Or is it just me and my end of the world (australia)

Cheers.
Enjoy.
Have Fun.
