I am looking for a midi music player that will show the channel number, and the instrument playing in it, with its name and its number both displayed. It also has to allow me to change the instrument while the music is playing. This player has to work in Windows XP. My favourite midi player was Mark's Karaoke player (_smfkar), which does not work at all in Win XP, and I need a replacement. I have tried searching Google for such a thing, but I guess I use the wrong keywords.
I would also like to find a program that creates a virtual keyboard, allows me to set the hbank of instruments, and the instrument, and play notes. Something like the Creative Labs Keyboard program would be ideal, but again, it has to work with Windows XP. Does anybody know of any such applications? Freeware or cheapware would be nice. |

Hi "Siamesecat",
I'm not sure if this is exactly what You might be looking for, but here is something that I found; "Click-Here" I didn't download it and check it out, so to be on the safe side since it is free-ware, might want to check it out for "E.T. type spyware" before You install it and afterwards if You do install it. ![]() Here is the complete google search I did, "Click-Here" Have a great & wonderful Day, "JaK" [smoke] |

Thanks, Jak, I'll try it. I think I got discouraged a bit too soon. I found a nice player that allows me to change instruments and banks on the fly. It is free, too. It is called SynthFont, and is a beta version, but works pretty well. I didn't get a keyboard player, but I probably can make do with SynthFont.

Oddysey,
When I mentioned keyboards, I meant virtual keyboards, not real ones. I won't be needing the virtual keyboard, because I got both functions in one program. |

Quote:Oddysey,That's OK, I was referring to the fact that I virtually play keyboards. [rolleyes] In fact, I've gotten pretty good at it, at a local open-mic session every Wedensday night. They even have contests over who can do the best job of virtually playing an instrument, and I almost always win (due to my advanced age and experience, you understand :o ), but I gotta tell ya, last week was a real heartbreaker for me. Seems that a new kid on the block heard about us, and came down to check us out. Boy, let me tell you, he played a mean virtual guitar - really tasty. At the same time, I thought he might be nothing more than a flash in the pan. Sadly, I learned the hard way not to judge somebody by his virtual skills - I knew I was toast when he jumped up on top of his virtual amp!! :P ![]() Oddysey I'm no longer in the rat race - the rats won't have me! |

Hi "Siamesecat",
I found this wonderful program, . .it's a free demo, . .and I've been just enjoying the "h*ll" out of it! It's call "Tab-Edit". It's a tablature editor, . .It reads "TEF.Files"(Suped-up-Midi files), . .You can slow down the music, . .set it to repeat, . .see muscial notation, along with the note for note tablature while You are listening to the Midi playing, . .You can learn the music note by note at Your own pace. I thought You might be interested in it since it has a keyboard. ![]() Here is where You can read about it and/or download it. Click Here Later, "JaK" [smoke] |

Thanks, Jak. I am quite happy with SynthFont. It allows me to experiment with different instruments while playing Midi files. If I want to make the change permanent, I can decompile the files, make changes, then recompile them.
