The final bow....
You'll note that my avatar has been cleared, as well as the text above.
Remember where it said "You want me to bow down to who....?"

Well, it is with heavy heart that I must report that Sunshine has finally bowed down. Lemme keep it short and bittersweet - pancreatic cancer got him, or was getting him, to be more accurate. Sadly, there just ain't no coming back from this one. The vet gave him the rest of the year at the outside, but that his pain might increase to the point where he would be nearly out of his mind even before that.

We took the easy out, and put him to rest in our front yard, in the Oasis (our name for the wild and natural habitat area of our 1.5 acres), where we've buried other pets from the past.

Fortunately, his sister shows no signs of any problems, but during her next annual physical, we'll spring for an ultrasound test for her, just to be sure. For now, we're keeping our fingers crossed.

I promise to get back on the ball in a few days.

I'm so very sorry to hear that, Oddysey.

Sunshine was an incredibly beautiful cat, with so much intelligence and character visible to anyone who saw his photograph.

My heart is with you, man.

Surfing with Proxo on wine in Debian GNU/Linux ... can ya dig it?

My condolences Oddysey ; I recently lost my dear companion Rottweiler , Sofie , to cancer of the shoulder . We tried to keep her free of pain for 6 months but she had to be put to sleep . It was the most difficult moment of my life .

My sincere condolences Oddysey and Ralph.

I understand that pets are like family members, and it's very painful when they get ill or pass away.

At least they don't have to suffer the pain anymore.

I wish you guys all the best.

I feel for you guys. My condolences also. We've had to put a cat and a dog down in the past few years due to cancer: it's very emotional. Cry

Thank you one and all.

Ralph, you know that there's nothing that can be said or done by others to ease the pain of such a passing. Suffice it to say that the strength of our grief is but a reflection of the strength of our lost love. Pity those who would tell you otherwise ("It's only a pet!"), for they, too, shall have their turn at the wailing wall.

My Dog
I saw this on the net a couple of years ago and read it every now and then . Kind of renews my spirit :
Quote:My dog lives in this house. You are welcome to
come and visit me anytime but we have a few
things that you must understand before you visit.

You must expect a few dog hairs to stick to your
clothes. I vacuum and clean often but my dog lives
in this house too.

You may be leaned on and find him in your lap
a few times but he does this because he loves
people and wants to say hello. So if you feel that
you are too good for his love then you are not
welcome here because this is his home too.

My dog is well mannered and very clean but if
you are one of those people who think all animals
are dirty and smell, then go away. You are not
the type of person that I care to associate with.

If you don't like the sound of barking, then my
home is not going to be a comfortable place for
you to visit.

Do not expect me to lock my dog in another
room during your visit. I have trained my dog
well so he will not do anything to you except
maybe want a pat on the head. I will not subject
him to feel as if he is being punished by locking
him away for no reason. That would be cruel.

When you walk into my home, be careful not to
trip on a stuffed toy or ball. These are my dog's
treasures and I will not take them away from
him just to show you that I keep a clean house.
He knows where all his toys are. They may
not look like much to you, but to him, they are
worth more than gold.

You see, this is OUR home.

We have been together since he was a small
puppy scampering around the house. I raised
him into well mannered, beautifully behaved
dog.

I am proud of him. I consider him my personal
gift from God.

He has done nothing but give me his endless
love and devotion for many years. I love him
dearly and want to make his years happy ones.
As happy as he made mine.

When you go home to your family, he stays here
with me. A fine and loving companion. He is
MY family and I wouldn't change that for the
world.

When it was cold and there was no heat, we kept
each other warm. When I was sick, he stayed
right by my side, as I did his when he was not
having a good day. A better friend I could not
ask for.

When no one else cared, my dog did. He has
given me nothing but pure joy and I love him
endlessly.

So please understand that I am not being rude.
I'm just looking out for my friend.
Take care friend

Sorry to hear about Sunshine. I am beginning to suspect something is wrong here. I know about 6 cats and a few dogs that all died of cancer recently, including one with a tumor in the throat. This was a very big Siamese that was fed a lot of raw mince and sardines along with the Purina cat food. Maybe something in the diet is killing these animals.

elshaddai;

Your sympathy is appreciated, thank you.

EDIT
Previous rant about food, cancer, allergies, superstitions, and other such drivel removed due to an attack of conscience. Sorry if anyone was offended.
