Firefox Myths
A very, very interesting read - http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/...Myths.html

Of course, I've always been a big fan to:
SA12403 - Unpatched since 08-30-2004
SA12580 - Unpatched since 09-18-2004

Turning more and more to Opera of late...

lol, nothing in contrast to the tens of millions that the so-called non-profit Mozilla Foundation rakes in, lol...

in other news, "what ads?", my Proxo must be doing its job well...

Ah... so neither has made any money off either of us. Smile!
At least the Mozilla Foundation gave us some free software. Wink

RE: Firefox Myths
true, but now that Opera is FREE (and the better browser), it's safe to say that "the dead bird" has its days "numbered"...

Since I changed my home page, block ads, and do not use the Google search plugin, they are not making much off me.

RE: Firefox Myths
Have you been able to do anything about the TCP Port activity that Firefox does upon startup?

Call it undue paranoia (hey, we ALL have it else we wouldn't be using Proxo, right?), but my firewall has one rule and one rule ONLY for each browser I have installed - a TCP Out to 127.0.0.1 on Port 8080 to allow communication to Proxo...

For Opera, that is the ONLY rule needed...

For Firefox, I have to manually "deny" TWO TCP In's each and every time I start 'er up... IF I set the firewall to automatically deny those two startup TCP In's, then F&*^fox will not connect to the 'net, period...

Personally, I suppose I shouldn't worry too much about it - Netscape died because it got too bloated... Now the same is happening with Firefox...

As Opera becomes increasingly more user-customizable (my preference, not necessarily what Firefox users look for), I can see the ol' "old myths die hard" unconcious thought pattern of Firefox users turning to Opera as they come to grips that the very "reasons" they switched to Firefox in the first place hold MORE true to Opera anyway...

Don't get me wrong, I at least now use "the dead bird" (hey, "baby steps"), but it is NOTHING compared to Opera...

I haven't tried. Mozillazine says Mozilla creates "A loopback connection for communication between the browser core and the SSL module". Smile!

The answer to "Which browser is best or better?" is "It depends." Wink

Even if somebody wanted to be fair and had experts tune each browser for a particular machine,
"Which of those browser was best?" would still depend on the wants and needs of that machine's user.

I'm still wondering how much money Google... Wink

couldn't agree more - although I like Opera better than Firefox, neither surpasses my current default (GreenBrowser)... I miss the RSS reader that both Sleipnir and Maxthon provide, but I seldom used them anyway...

Ah.. Thanks for the link... My Firefox seems to work even though I manually "deny" that 'loopback'...
It's unfortunate that my firewall cannot be set up to automatically deny the behind-the-back-connect, but so long as the connection is denied, I'm happy...

Firefox checks for updates to extensions by default. Since I get a notification that the certificate from Prox is invalid every time, I surmise that it is going to the update site.

Even with those disabled, Tools>Options...>Update, you may still see the loopback "bug".
I assumed Prox* had them disabled...

The update addresses may be found by going to "About:Config" and entering "update" in the Filter field. If you add the update url to Firefox's "No proxy for:" field or Proxomitron's Bypass-List, the warning should go away.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ and yet there is this myth that there is this myth Wink

correct - you know me, IMO, any autoupdate "feature" is nothing more than a "phone home" and is thereby nixed...

RE: Firefox Myths
I do not have Firefox set to autoupdate anything. It just tells me if there are any updates to add-ons available.
