Persistent promos.mcafee.com
« on: August 22, 2001, 10:05:16 PM »
I visited the following site which offers a graphical internet speed test:

http://promos.mcafee.com/speedometer/

This site would not work without setting Proxomitron to bypass mode.  I added the site to my bypass list and all seemed well.

However I noticed that Tiny Personal Firewall showed that Proxomitron still had multiple connections to this site over an hour after my web browser closed.  In order to stop these connection, I had to exit and restart proxomitron.

Is this an artifact of the bypass list, or is something more sinister going on?

Thanks.

Hi,
Personally this not a site I would put in my bypass list. So if your only reason for using the site is to take speed tests, I will recommend you use any of those found here http://www.dslreports.com/

For the same reason I can not answer you about the persistant connections in bypass mode. But you can try to use the Header "Connection: Close.." Filter and see if that helps.
