Suppress Any info on Browser/OS
« on: January 28, 2002, 08:57:48 AM »
Dear Proxomitron Users,
                          I was playing around with a software program that would not just spoof Browser/OS info, but it would not let any Browser/OS information be forwarded through. I got to thinking that Proxo could do the same thing. Here are a set of very, very simple Filters that will stop any Browser/OS info from getting through. There's also two Filters (5&6) that are site-specific and they will allow you get on the FORUM, and e-mail accounts  that qualify your Browser when you login,*cough*Hotmail*cough*etc,..  can be added to them also. But that's the only time that any info. is allowed through. (Always disable Java and Active-X). I know that they may not look like much, and I'm sure that I have hurriedly labeled some of them wrong, but they work quite well. Remember the " " are not part of the Filter. You all have a Great and Wonderful Day, MY FRIENDS! Signed: "Jak"[:)}

-------start of Filter-------
Key or name of filter= "Accept-encoding: Allow webpage encoding (out)"
Match= "*"
--------End of Filter-------

Url="*"

Key="User-Agent:(out)Mozilla/4.01th"
Url="[^/]++asp.flaaten.dk/pforum"
Match="*"
Replacement text="Mozilla/4.01 [en] (Win95; I)"

Hi Jak,

some questions and remarks on this:

what is the use of your fourth filter? If you want to change the accept string, other filters should work... and while I do not use MSIE myself, I believe that the entire string can be changed in the registry.

Also, your filterset would not block plugin sniffing, or UA retreival through javascript.

I am currently using a filterset that blocks *everything* about the browser, posted here. I have extended that file to also block plugin sniffing, as well as other info.

Also, Opera allows you to change user agent and accept types in the ini file

Alas most of these tricks will not work with the Microsoft browsers.

Praeterea censeo Americe esse delendam.

Hi "Jor",
Thanks for the information and the link. I know that the Filter set is rough and crude. But I had fun making them, and seeing them work. I admit most of it was trial and error, mostly error.
The reason I used the 4th filter was after I had blocked everything else, that was the only thing left standing. So I constructed it to "k" what was left. I'm not that well versed in plugin sniffing, or UA retreival, so I'm hoping that you might would give me some "pointers". And to be honest, I hadn't thought about making the changes in the registry. That's a good idea though,if you are not leary about tinkering with the registry. I'm still learning about such things, so I'm cautious about making changes in there that I'm not completely comfortable with.
I like Opera, too. I use it from time to time, but I have problems trying to access e-mails with it, the site keeps wanting me to send a certificate to verify myself. But any information you can throw my way I will be eternally grateful. And thanks again for your input on the Filters. I really like your work Jor. I hope that you have a Wonderful and Blessed Day, MY FRIEND!
Signed: "Jak"

Dear "Jor",
          I almost forgot, here is a link to that software program that I was tinkering with when I thought about making these filters, just in case you might want to look at it. I like the program, but it's shareware.

Dear "Proxo-terians",
                    I just tried that link from a different computer, and it doesn't work.??? Sorry. I don't know what's up with that.I'll have to check my "Link-discombobulator" program out and find out why it's not translating it over. Here is the original link: www.surferprotectionprogram.com I welcome any and all comments, input, and criticism good or bad. As ARNE say, " the more we talk, the more we share, the more we know". And I dare say that, all of us together, is better than any one of us alone.
