Interesting Articles
« on: March 23, 2002, 09:43:39 AM »
HI FRIENDS,
Here is a site that has some articles that some may find interesting reading http://www.privacyfoundation.org/privacywatch/index.asp
Also this month's issue of smartcomputing is entitled, "Protecting your Privacy & Keeping your data Safe". There was an article in it that spoke, of course, about "Carnivore", and the international version, "Echelon", but there is a new device that's on the list, called "Magic Lantern". They have a on-line library where you can read articles of past issues. If you think you might be interested you might can find the article at http://www.smartcomputing.com. Echelon and Magic Lantern can affect all on-line users.

The "Internet" was borned out of an idea, that before it was called ARPANET, where every machine connected, reguardless of protocols, and reguardless of Hard-ware, every machine could communicate with every other machine. That's the way it's designed to be. Privacy and Security has to do more with your Knowledge , your Awareness, and what YOU DO to Protect your Machine & Your On-Line Privacy, not the Internet!Knowledge IS Power!(Pogo said, "We have seen the enemy, and it is us".) Every person should take the responsibility for the Security of their machine and the Privacy of their Surfing. Because the InterNet was not designed with security or privacy in mind, it is designed to where every one can communicate with everyone else. And that's neither secure nor private. The same protocol that allows you to send a distance relative a picture of the Grand-children, also allows a person with enough of the right understanding to access your machine, and grab all your JPEG's. and run, or anything else on your machine that might be of interest to them, whether you want them to or not. And to sacrifice the one, is to sacrifice the other. These are just my "own personal" late-night thoughts as I checked the posts on the FORUM. And I will cease with these words from the Chief of Police from the show "Hill-Street Blues", "Let's all be careful out there!"

I hope that you find some of these articles both enjoyable, and enlightning.

Safe-Surfing, MY FRIENDS, Have a Wonderful and Blessed Day.
"Jak"
