Multi matching question
« on: April 24, 2002, 09:26:11 PM »
Hi,

this may sound strange, but can anyone explain clearly what "Allow for multiple matches" really does?

I found that since a lot of my filters do not use this, no other filter can "get" to the HTML used by a previous filter.
Yet if I enable it, sometimes other filters still cannot filter the HTML, unless I change filter order...

Also, is there anything I should be aware of if I activate it? The helpfiles hint that this could lead to recursive matching, but I have virtually no filter which replaces something that could be matched by the same filter.

hi jor,
this is the answer to your question.

when you allow a filter for multiple matches, after matching the filter rescans the bounds from its beginning. when multiple matches are not allowed, the filter skip to the end of bounds and scans the remaining code of the page.

if you don't set bounds (or bounds can't contain multiple matches) you don't need to enable it. allow for multiple matches is useful if bounds can contain multiple matches.

regards,
altosax.

Jak - hey, glad you like the sets my friend

I already did upload newer versions, same thread as before (hotlinked from above .

I find myself constantly adding and tweaking filters, only to remove most of them a few days later -- seems the more I work on them the more I understand the language!

I hope to write some really good versions soon... a lot of filters I know I can do better.

Hi JOR,
Sounds great, I understand what you are saying about re-doing filters. It seems that everytime I learn something new about the Proxo lanuage, I have to go through and tweek most of them again & again. I guess filter construction will always be a "work in progress". I really appreciate your work,( I think you "excell" especially on Opera and Java/JavaScript), and I can't see where there is much room to improve on, My Friend."Of course one's self is always one's worst critic"
Thanks Again for Sharing,
"Jak"
