O T Question re net protocols..
« on: June 14, 2002, 05:51:30 PM »
Sheesh, you guys must be sick of me by now..

Q - I've seen some reg hack to speed up IE by increasing max connections from 2/4 to 4/4 or even 6/6 (per server/perl_Oserver)

They work!, IE is a lot faster, BUT, am I causing problems elsewhere (maybe even with proxo?)

I think you're on the safe site .
8 connections for HTTP 1.1 and 10 for 1.0 is what i was seeing recommended mostly.
But that might not be kind to the server.

hi morphy :)
i'm not using any hack now (btw, i'll do it) but i've used these and many others without no problem.
i suggest you to not increase max connections a lot, but to use a reasonable number. because the default is 2/4, for example use 4/6.

<edit> oh, sidki have answered while i was writing mine.

regards,
altosax.

Thanks guys, I was just a little concerned.

reg file =

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000004
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000004

<edit> Hi altosax
<think>altosax needs to type faster to catch sidki3003  hehehe </think>

I thought Prox43 was playing up maybe 'cos of this, but since found i can crash Prox43 (taking out windows-to-reboot with it) everytime, by playign about with filters (activating, save, deactivate, save, reload IE6, repeat). After 20 mins or so, prox dies the big one...  LOLOLOL!!!

Yep, 8-10 can really speed things up. The default is only 2 for HTTP/1.1 which is way too low I think (that "standard" was probably created only to lessen the load on web servers). The ideal is to have just enough so that your bandwidth is usually being fully used when a page loads. Going beyond that adds too much overhead and can slow things down again.

I remember there was some Internet "speed tweak" program out there that actually set it to 50!  That's so high some servers DoS protection would kick in and cause broken pages and images.
