after killing popup window
« on: August 23, 2002, 08:50:13 AM »
Does anyone use email.com?
You may have noticed if you run proxo and have it set to kill popup windows
that you then lose the ability to continue on with actions like reading
your email. This is extreemly anoying and was wondering if anyone had found a way around it? It won't be much longer I'll just send them a nasty letter and
move all my email somewhere else. Can you believe they went so far as to make your session lose control if you don't allow their popup? Hell, what am I
saying, of course you believe it and so do I. Those greedy bastards are going to lose all their email users.

edit: Oops, I forgot they just changed to mail.com only. Used to be email.com also..  So anyone else use this service, and how do you get around the popup windows?

Can you explain how you do that, or what program you use please?
I have never heard of pop2, just pop3. Just curious, thanks.

I guess you did, I didn't realize that was the program name. None the less it was pointless as the program you mentioned only works if the web mail is accessible from pop3 to begin with. If you do not have pop3 or yahoo/hotmail then this program does nothing. It was useless in this case as mail.com will not allow a pop3 connection unless you are a paying account. There free mail which I have is web based only, I was wondering if someone had got proxo configured to work with this web based email in order to block popup windows and keep control of the session. Thanks for your suggestion but it's a no go in this situation.

Did you read the FAQ and see the plugin list?

07-08-2002 Upgrade for Mail.com module (email.com access).

DOH! then my Outlook Express must surely have gotten some additional features during the last time I didn't upgrade it, again...as I can access webmail accounts with it from among others:

blackvault.com
excite.com
yahoo.com
hotmail.com

Seriously, next time do read further, as it most definitely does exactly what I said. And it even supports mail.com and all it's available domains.

Mail Client sees Web2Pop as local popserver using POP3, Web2Pop in its turn, via the appropriate plugin library, maps the pop3 request to HTTP and accesses the webmail service via a regular webconnection and NOT thru pop3 as you suggest, it is not even capable of accessing a popserver.

There is one caveat, the plugin libraries are tied relative tighly to the htmlsource of the corresponding webmail system. Meaning that if the web part of the connection runs trhu Prox, the changes it makes to the html as result of filtering often cause Web2Pop to fail or timeout during log-in.

I have therefore routed all my webmail-accounts thru MailWasher to weed out the spam first...(which in turn can launch my mailclient for the final download)

Web2Pop does not verify or follow links in html-mail when downloading it, so no real worry about an ad getting thru in the process, just make sure your mailclient does use Prox when it is accessing the net for external images...

another option is to ad an execptionlist to Prox, use it to skip the popup killer on urls listed in that blocklist e.g.

URL = "(^*$LST(NoPopupKiller)*)"

Thanks sidki3003 for pointing out the add-in

Thanks TEggHEAD for sticking with me.

I finally got it working with the add-in, now I just have to go back and see how much they want to register...  Nice program though, thanks again!  :)
