Can IE 5.5 save files in My download directly?
« on: May 01, 2002, 04:22:55 AM »
Hello! friends

I am using IE 5.5. Every time I download a file, Window pop up box ask me to save on desktop.  I have to navigate all the way to "My download" foder. I is getting annoyance.

Netscape Communicator can save the file directly to My download folder.  Can IE 5.5 do that?

hi haiunder,
you need to hack the windows registry for this.

the right key depends from windows version. btw, you have to look in:
hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftinternet explorer and so on.
i suggest you to open all keys: you could find some interesting settings.

to edit your windows registry, click start/open, type regedit and click enter.
open the key tree on the left and search for the right key. to edit a key value, right click on it, then modify.

sorry, but i can't answer you more detailed now, hope this helps anyway.

regards,
altosax.

hi again haiunder.
i'm not at my home pc now, this is the reason i wasn't more detailed in my last message. on the system i'm using now (windows xp) the setting you need is under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer

if you don't like to hack manually the windows registry, copy and paste the subsequent registry key hack in a text file created with notepad, modify the path as you need, then rename it as .reg and double click on it.

---------------------cut here-------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer]
"Download Directory"="C:exact_path_here"

---------------------cut here-------------------------

please, ensure you copy and paste also the last blank line at bottom (the 5th row)

regards,
altosax.

Don't forget to double backslash paths in reg files e.g.
"Download Directory"="D:\ARCHIV\DOWNLOAD"

BTW good feeling to be back to this familiar place again

The new isp told me in the telphome early today that he would get it running today. He also gave me ½ year free access. But now it is after working hours and I still have free access to nothing LOL. So I started the board here again until things are in order. I can always make another backup

Hello again, my friends.

I had a hard time to reach to this forum in past few weeks.  I am able to get in today.

I appreciate very much for your help.  I think that this is a best forum I ever read.

Thanks again.
