Proxo blocking access

After going through a long process of elimination, I finally figured out that Proxo was the cause for the inability to access some particular website's downloads, especially those which redirected me to an FTP address.  I had previously tried to bypass Proxo at those locations to see if it was the problem, but that had no effect.  After eliminating every other possibility that I could think of, I uninstalled Proxo, but even this did not change anything.  Only after cleaning the registry of all Proxo related keys, etc. was I able unblock the site.  Proxo will remain temporarily uninstalled until this can be fixed, I hope someone may have a solution.  I am using version 4.2 with the original filters.  There were other complications involved, but rather than trying to explain them, here is a link to a thread that I posted at the Opera forum:

There is no installation or uninstall of Proxomitron. There are no registry keys related to the program, except for shortcuts and such. It is just a program you chose to start or not to start. And if you start it and wish to use it, you have to configure your browser to use it as a proxy. If you chose not to use it, you just don't start it and remember to tell your browser not to use it as a proxy.

So I really do not understand the problem you are having. Sorry!

           I went and read the posts at Opera site. I haven't heard of Proxo causing a problem like you were discribing, but I know that you where having some problems. I however use an older version of Proxo than you were using, but looking at the code there is nothing in the version that I use would generate any registry keys. I know that every machine is different and what works on one doesn't always mean that it does the same on another one. I have my Proxo set-up so tight that I have to "by-pass" sometimes to download from some sights, but it's because of the Java Filters that I have enabled.

I have a suggestion, since now know how to take out the combination of things to solve the download problem, why don't you try Proxo 4.1 or 4.0. and see what happens? I know by your post that you like and miss the Proxo program, I would too. If you need installation files for 4.1, I can supply you with them.

If you upload your default.cfg file to some location where I can download it, I will try to see what might be wrong, if anything with Proxo. Zip up the default.cfg and the files in the lists folder and upload it somewhere I can fetch it.

Hi,

If I had to guess I'd think it's because you may have set your browser to proxy FTP protocol through Proxomitron.  Proxomitron is a HTTP/Secure proxy only so in your browser just leave the FTP entry blank or pointing to any other FTP proxy you may use.  Also if you're using IE also make sure you don't have "use same proxy for all protocols" checked.

Thanks to everybody for your interest and repsponses to my problem.  I will try Scott's recommendation for Opera's protocols, however, I have had the FTP protocol enable through Proxo in the past without problems.  But, I'm game to try almost anything to fix this.  If that doesn't work, I'll take Arne's offer about uploading the configuration file.

Yep, that change in the browser protocols seems to have fixed the problem.  I don't understand why it worked okay in the past with that configuration, but I  just glad to have Proxo running again without the problem.  Thanks for the solution.
