How to set Proxy right?
« on: May 31, 2002, 06:47:01 AM »
Sorry guys, I just want to know how to set the proxy set for Proxo.  Before, I just set proxy as localhost: 8080.  But I recently change to a new isp and they require to use proxy when browsing.  I have checked the manual of Proxo, and it states

"If you are already connecting through a proxy server, you'll need to set the Proxomitron to use your original HTTP proxy settings"

so I have done the following

1.I tick the box for using the remote setting.
2. I add the new proxy number xxx.x.xxx.x :8080
3.I go to advance setting. Tick the box for sending user name and passwords to proxy.  Set put in the details.

But Proxo is still not working.  What else do I need to do?

Have you remembered to set your browser to use Proxomitron in the browser settings? Sometimes it is easy to forget

Browser -> Proxomitron -> the ISP proxy

(It isn't by any chance AOL?)

Thanks, Arne
It is working now.  I thought we need to set the same setting as required by ISP even if we use the remote proxy setting.  After I reset the browser setting it works beautifully.

NO. It's not AOL.  My last ISP goes bellied up suddenly, so I just move to the new one today and it takes me nearly over an hour to register the new account.  The browser just would not work if you don't set the proxy as given by the ISP.

BTW, there seems to be somthing wrong with the site.  When I try to go this site, it keeps redirecting me to this address  http://127.0.0.1/.  I need to retry a few times before I could enter the site.

I've actually noticed that too, i often end up seeing my locally hosted webpage rather that the boards - though one 'refresh' usually sorts it. I always thought it was some problem my end.

This 127.0.0.1 is from a filter I have been using since th DoS attacs started. It checks for a few things like what user agent is being used and if there is a HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR or HTTP_VIA being submitted. And if you have som "not funny" refferer showing, like you are coming from the White House etc.
An empty user agent also gets to see itself.

So this is what you folks are running into in some way. Sorry about it, but it has been necessary.

Ok well that makes sense - only i have no filters for the headers mentioned for this forum, and don't use an external proxy... I thought :P

I just add this site to my Bypass list and my trusted zone. There's nothing harmful here - no ads, no popups or popunders, etc. and I trust Arne to keep it that way.
