"Waiting for new connections" (upgrade)
« on: July 04, 2002, 08:13:54 AM »
I just installed the latest version of the Proxomitron over a functioning install of the previous one (unzipped into the old directory, shut down the program first). For some reason it won't work any more. It just says "waiting for connections on 8080." This is in Netscape 4.79. I haven't changed anything and all the settings are as they should be. Not a networked system, using dial-up (free AOL for a month now with no problems). I tried overwriting the default.cfg with my old one, didn't change anything. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

I'm guessing that port 8080 wasn't the port you used before...
And it may be worth checking your browser proxy settings point to 8080.
If not that, then maybe you have a firewall blocking connections?

Thanks for the reply. I was using 8080 before - really, I changed absolutely no settings at all. I don't see any way there's a firewall in place, especially everything was working before I made the upgrade. Where would I check? Any idea what else it could be? Thanks again.

OK, the strangest thing is that if I change the port on the browser and the Proxomitron to 4040 it seems to work, although I have placeholders where banner ads should be instead of eliminating them entirely as before. If I change to 7070, OTOH, it doesn't work either. No clue what's going on.
